Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most common questions we receive from our patients. If you’re unsure about something, feel free to contact us.
Appointments & Booking
Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?
No referral is required. You can book directly with us without seeing a doctor first.
Occasionally your medical aid (especially international health insurance plans) may require a doctor’s referral before reimbursing for physiotherapy – it’s best to check this with your cover provider.
TL;DR … No 😉
Can I be treated at my first appointment?
Yes. Your first session will include an assessment and, in most cases, immediate treatment.
In cases where further testing or other management is advised before treatment, your physio will discuss this with you.
How long is a session?
Appointments are generally 40–45 minutes. Your physiotherapist will let you know if follow-up sessions should be shorter or longer.
How do I book an appointment?
Use our online booking form or call us directly on 011 325 4134. More details on our booking page.
What to Expect at Your Physio Appointment
What should I wear to my appointment?
Comfortable, easy-to-move-in clothing is best as this helps us to assess your movement well.
If we’re treating your lower limb or spine, you may be asked to change into shorts or a gown – many clients are more comfortable bringing their own shorts.
Should I bring my running shoes?
Yes! If you’re an active person (walking running, playing sport, going to the gym…), please bring your trainers with you. Sometimes we might want to check your shoes for wear pattern, assess how they impact your movement, or just have you use them for higher impact movement assessment or rehab.
Will treatment be painful?
Some techniques (like dry needling or deep tissue work) can feel intense, but your physio will always work within your tolerance and explain what to expect.
That said, we’re NOT a no-pain-no-gain practice, and believe in listening to the body and learning to work with it. So expect some discomfort with certain techniques, but treatment is seldom very painful.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your condition, but your physiotherapist will give you a personalised plan after your first session.
Is it safe to exercise while seeing a physio?
In many cases, yes—gentle or guided movement can speed up recovery. We’ll guide you on what’s safe.
And our goal is your goal! To achieve that we aim to keep you as strong and active as possible, suggesting suitable cross-training options to support your recovery, and minimise the impact of your injury on your overall training and life.
Billing & Rates
Do you accept medical aid?
We are a cash practice, but we provide invoices for you to submit to your medical aid for reimbursement.
This means payment (usually by card) is due after each session, and then you submit a claim with your medical aid. See more here.
What does a session cost?

Special Services
Do you treat post-operative patients?
Yes—we regularly work with patients after orthopaedic surgery and will coordinate care with your surgeon if needed.
Do you offer Pilates for rehabilitation?
Yes—our physiotherapist-led Pilates sessions are tailored to recovery, injury prevention, and core strength.
Can I combine physio and massage therapy?
Absolutely. Many patients benefit from both for injury recovery or stress relief.
You’ll find more info about sports massage here, and feel free to get in touch if you have questions about what’s best.
